HERE ARE A FEW HANDMADE JEWELRY ITEMS AND
OTHER STUFF FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION..
All the pieces unless otherwise noted are part of my personal collection which I removed from pawn inventory over the years and took as part of my wages/profit in lieu of cash. Most all of them are pieces which I personally prized and admired, so if they don't sell I won't be heartbroken!.Also,, during my over 40 years of dealing with the Navajo people I have acquired a bit of skill in the art of silversmithing myself so some of the items listed may be my own creations. Many of the pieces I have made have been sold in some of the finest shops thruout the Southwest, and in humility I would say there are a number of collectors who actually seek out my stuff. So if you have a problem with a piece crafted by myself then please ask in advance and I'll be happy to let you know.

PLEASE READ!!!

FOR ALL CUSTOMERS

I MUCH PREFER CASH AND WILL USUALLY PAY SHIPPING FOR CASH PURCHASES,, and I also accept Postal Money orders, or your personal check for payment.
(May require a waiting period for checks or money orders to clear before I ship.)
I accept Payment by Venmo as well..
I DO NOT ACCEPT PAYMENT BY PAYPAL
UNLESS YOU WANT TO ADD THEIR FEES TO THE PRICE!!

(I hate that company and the way they and Ebay team up to rob sellers and run up the price of goods!!)
In my many years on planet earth I've never been told by anyone when I'm selling something which is mine that I MUST use only one method of payment, and that, by the way you must pay a fee to do so,,, shouldn't that be left up to the buyer and seller to agree upon?? Just a way to force more fees,, they should be part of the Federal government!!...
well you understand how I feel about eBay and Paypal by now.
Even though I may have to use ebay in the future you may notice that I sometimes offer these things for sale cheaper than I had them starting on eBay cause I don't have to pay their confiscatory fees.
I also charge only actual shipping which is usually around $5.00 for small items, plus insurance if you want to pay for it, as I assume no liability for any item after I ship and provide tracking information to the buyer.

ALWAYS be aware that I have these items for sale locally and they are all subject to prior sale!
Please inquire as to availability.

~Triple Jakla Necklace~

Normally we would sell these type of necklaces for in excess of $200 quite easily but this particular one is made of block turquoise. While some block turquoise is readily distinguishable from the natural stuff, this one is very nice and difficult to tell from the more pricey ones. This necklace would be one you could wear anywhere and 99% of the folks who see it will not be able to tell it from the real stuff.. This necklace is pictured on the girl with the red scarf. Save a bunch on a great necklace..

Item #100
Sell this one for $75.00.

~FANTASTIC BRACELET~

Here is a great bracelet for you to consider... This one features a fantastic old Kingman stone in the center and it is flanked on either side by FIVE gorgeous carved cabs! The silver work is impeccable and the overall piece is unique and striking. It weighs in at a whopping 83 grams and measures about 1 3/8" wide. Inside tip to tip is a bit over 5 1/2" and has an opening which is adjustable of about 1 1/4". This one was made by V. CHEE and is so stamped as well as "sterling". This is about as unique and different as any bracelet you may see.

~FANTASTIC STORYTELLER BRACELET~

This is perhaps one of the finest storyteller bracelet I've had. It has fantastic detail and impeccable workmanship. The bracelet is one inch wide and beautifully domed. It is about 5 1/2" inside tip to tip and an opening of 1 1/4" which would be a bit adjustable. I have tried to capture the detail in the photos but this one is even nicer than shown in those pictures. It is hallmarket "ET" and stamped "sterling". I found one on ebay by same maker and same size but with not nearly the detail and it was offered for $375!! This is sterling silver and weighs in at a very impressive and comfortable 45 grams.
Item #104
Sell for only$145.00 ((SOLD))

~LARGE CLUSTER ZUNI STYLE BRACELET~
~Authentic Dead Pawn~

Many of the sellers on eBay list their pieces of Navajo Jewelery as "dead pawn", or "old pawn". Some may well know the history and accuracy of that description, but only those of us who are in the business of pawning with the Navajos can say with absolute certainty that what we sell is indeed "DEAD PAWN".
Often the Navajo people so desperatly want a large cluster bracelet and are prohibited by the high cost of a Sterling silver bracelet. The alternative is one like this one which is made of German Silver. Only the well trained eye can tell the difference and many people perfer the German Silver because it is resistant to tarnish. This one is quite large, measuring about 3 1/4" wide at the ends of the oval piece and is about 5 5/8" inside tip to tip with an opening which measures about 1 1/8". This one is built on the style of the old cluster bracelets with the little moon shaped adornments around the circumference of the center. This bracelet has very nice quality turquoise with beautiful matrix and has great eye appeal. One of the nicest of these bracelets I've had, and I've had a bunch!! A bracelet like this in silver would retail for well over $400 and as I said only the most knowledgeable of folk will be able to tell the difference. So if you want a great looking cluster bracelet for a fraction of what it might otherwise cost take a look. Thanks for looking.

Item #105
Sell for $145.00

~FANTASTIC BEAR CLAW BRACELET~
~Authentic Dead Pawn~

A rare find in a bracelet made by Gerald Etsitty a navajo silversmith in the Gallup NM area. A superb piece which is about 1 1/2" wide and weighs in at about 66 grams.. This one features some very classy leaf and filagree work and has dual claws plus two gorgous turquoise cabs and two in red coral to help set off the claws and the whole piece. Just an unusual cuff that is hard to find.

Item #106
Sell for only $195.00--(SOLD--

~Sterling Silver~
~Old style Navajo Cluster Cuff~

This huge turquoise and silver piece weighs in at a grand 133 grams and measures nearly 3" tall at the top. Heavy shank and lots of nice classy silver work with beautiful blue Sleeping Beauty stones.This one measures about 6"+ inside tip to tip with an adjustable opening of a bit over an inch on the bottom.. Just a great example of Navajo Silversmithing!!. This one would sell at close to a thousand dollars in most jewelry shops out here.

Item #107
Sell for only $450.00--SOLD!!

Just a superb navajo bracelet of sterling silver with nice coral and turquoise as well as some fantastic leaf work. This is a good sized bracelet measuring a full 2" tall and has nice balance and eye appeal. Just a classy piece with great leaf work.
Item #108
Sell for $150.00

~LARGE SINGER STYLE BRACELET~
~Authentic Dead Pawn~

This piece is very typical of the craft which was practiced about 30 miles north of us on the Navajo reservation by the Singer family. They employed several silversmiths who could do the quality of chip inlay that they had become famous for. This one is a nice representative piece and is solid and smooth. I have left this scuffed and tarnished with wear but could buff it up to a high shine if that is what you prefer. This one was probably made in the 70s as that was the era of high demand for this style jewelry. The ears and hold downs are made for a medium size watch of your choosing. It is a medium to large watch bracelet as you can see by the pictures and is priced at what would be considered a VERY low wholesale amount for such a great piece. Although I list this as used it has actually never had a watch in it nor been worn. This watch bracelet measures one and one half inches wide!! The inside tip to tip measurement is a bit over 5 3/4" and the opening is about 1 1/4". This one weighs in at a respectable 74 grams more or less.

Item #109
Sell for $110.00

~LARGE NAVAJO CLUSTER CONCHOBELT~
~Authentic Dead Pawn~

This piece listed here was pawned by myself in my shop several years ago and has been setting on a shelf in my vault for all those years. This particular concho belt is one of the best of the best. This is a circa 1970 belt and shows very high quality craftsmanship and very high grade turquoise. This is a large belt as you can see by the pictures and is priced at what would be considered a VERY low wholesale amount for such a great piece. It is stamped "sterling" and has a double starburst stamp which is undoubtedly the silversmith hallmark. I could make up a name of the artist like so many do on eBay but that would be highly unethical. I am certain this was made on the Navajo Reservation by a Navajo artist but I don't know the name. This is a large concho belt with each of the 10 conchos and the buckle measuring 2.5" X 3" and having around 20 high quality turquoise nuggets in each. The belt weighs about 630 grams and is one of the more unusual belts I have ran across. In the professional opinion of a man in our area who has been in the wholesale and retail business all of his adult life if I were to make each of the eleven pieces into individual belt buckles, which would be very easy too do, they would retail for between $350 and $400 each! This means that my starting bid is WELL below the keystone, or wholesale level for this fantastic cluster concho belt.

I know some folks place a high value on having a "signed piece" as if that makes the jewelry somehow better quality. It has been my experience over 40 plus years of dealing in Navajo, Hopi and Zuni jewelry that often many of the unsigned pieces are much higher quality than those with someone's initials on them. A few artists have earned respect by consistently turning out high quality items and thereby earn respect for their marks, but that is the exception rather than the rule. Remember, it's easy for a silversmith to buy or make an initial stamp & put it on their pieces and just as easy for many sellers on Ebay to make up names to match the initials! One almost like this one on eBay except it has two less comchos and they are very slightly larger for $4,889. Actually this belt is a better belt and overall larger than it is.

A fantastic vintage navajo wedding basket for your consideration. This basket is the traditional design used by the weavers and has certain religious significance. A great example of native american basket weaving.

If you've wanted a nice looking handmade navajo conchobelt and can't afford or don't want to spend the big bucks to buy a silver one, you might consider the nickle alternative. Only the most discriminating can really tell the differnce when you wear it. This one has 10 conchos which each measure about 2 1/4" X 1 5/8" and 10 butterflies which each measure about 2" X 1". The buckle is all handcrafted as well and measures about 2 1/2" X 2". This is a very nice ccnchobelt and is presently strung on solid black leather interwoven but could easily be restrung if desired. From the end of the buckle to the last concho measures about 36". A nice one at about one third the cost of a silver duplicate.

Item #120
Priced at $175.00.

OLD OLD DOME BRACELET!!
Here is a truly old domed bracelet!! This one was made for a small woman and measures about 4 5/8" inside tip to tip with an opening of about 1 3/8". This old piece is very substantial and weighs in at a 57 grams!! This old cuff measures about 1 1/8" wide and has a high dome which gives it a great look. As you can see in the pictures this one has been worn and worn and has nearly worn off the lovely stamp work which lends to the vintage ambiance. Just a great old piec to wear or simply collect.

Item #121

Just a great old collectable pin.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~GREAT OLD SANDCAST BRACELET~
This bracelet was cast by Daisy Allison who lived in Holbrook Arizona in the 1970s.
Beautiful and absolutely authentic. Sterling silver and stunning!
Daisy Allison is one of the few Navajo silversmiths who specialized in the art of casting. It is a hot and hard form of silversmithing and is for the hearty soul. I first came to know Ms. Allison in the early 1970s when she was living in Holbrook, Arizona and doing her smithing in a small room of her home. She actually cast this bracelet for me from some scrap silver I had. I saw the molds for some of her casting work and she was a real artist at making the molds as well as casting the silver. This bracelet has an absolutely gorgeous patina and her touches are visible on the entirity of the piece.
This bracelet has an absolutely gorgeous patina and her touches are visible on the entirity of the piece. You can trust me when I tell you that the pictures do not do justice to the overall vintage look and appeal of this bracelet. This is a prime example of the art of casting by a silversmith who finished her product completely by hand as she had few modern tools. This has the very appealing fan shape on the top and looks fantastic on a ladies arm. It measures 2 1/2" across the top and is 5 1/2" around the inside circumference with an opening of about 1 1/4". This is a large and heavy bracelet weighing in at a whopping 89 grams! A fantastic example of a quickly dying art. As this bracelet was made by Daisy specifically for me I cannot include this in the dead pawn category.
Item #131
Sell for $240.00 (write to check availability)
This Beaver State Pendleton Blanket was previously owned and pawned by a Navajo. This is a traditional NATIVE AMERICAN blanket which is called a shawl, as it was made with a fringed edge. This is typically used as a lady's blanket in ceremonies, but as with most Native American designs, it is wonderfully unisex in nature. These blankets may be used as a colorful wall hanging, or as a decorative sofa throw. Please notice the photos below, as the blankets are jacquard loomed and will have a completely different pattern and/or colors on each side.
Blanket Measurements: 63" X 65"--
Condition: EXCELLENT LIKE NEW CONDITION with no hang tags and with, no tears, holes, moth damage or unpleasant odors, etc. unless noted below.
Fabric Content: 82% Wool, 18% Cotton Warp
Fabric Care: Dry Clean Cleaning is strongly recommended-- as this is a possibly used item Original Pendleton Beaver State cloth tag attached.
BLANKET STYLE: "CHIEF JOSEPH"
ABOUT PENDLETON & TRADE BLANKETS: Blankets are an integral part of Indian life from birth to death. Blankets are used for both warmth and adornment. Blankets are often given as gifts to celebrate births, marriages and christenings. The Native Americans use blankets in trade to pay off debts, to show gratitude, or to indicate status.
" Indians cradle their babies in blankets, they dance in blankets, and when they die, many are buried in their blankets."
Pendleton has manufactured TRADE BLANKETS for the Native American people since 1896. These blankets come in a wide range of vibrant colors. The blankets we list have all been used and pawned and not redeemed. For many of the Navajo population, pawning their personal items is a way of life.
We sometimes took in pawn Pendleton Robes and Shawls. The Navajo people use Pendleton robes and shawls in many of their ceremonies and they are prized by them. Another Vintage Pendleton ladies shawl. This one appears to be brand new but has no tags which is not unusual as the Navajo people often take the tags off. This one is in a bit newer condition than the one above and does in fact appear as new but does have a couple of small moth nips on one side. As the navajos had very few options for storage it is not unusual to have a bit of moth damage but this one is very limited and as far as I could tell is unaffected on one side.I have personally seen a fellow who was a total novice sew these moth nips up and you had to look extremely closely to see where they had been and would not have been seen at all if you were not really looking for them. Actual shipping on these robes and shawls is $15.00 as I send them in a large flat rate priority box.(S-3)
ABOUT PENDLETON & TRADE BLANKETS: Blankets are an integral part of Indian life from birth to death. Blankets are used for both warmth and adornment. Blankets are often given as gifts to celebrate births, marriages and christenings. The Native Americans use blankets in trade to pay off debts, to show gratitude, or to indicate status.
" Indians cradle their babies in blankets, they dance in blankets, and when they die, many are buried in their blankets."
Pendleton has manufactured TRADE BLANKETS for the Native American people since 1896. These blankets come in a wide range of vibrant colors. The blankets we list have all been used and pawned and not redeemed. For many of the Navajo population, pawning their personal items is a way of life.
We sometimes took in pawn Pendleton Robes and Shawls. The Navajo people use Pendleton robes and shawls in many of their ceremonies and they are prized by them. Another Vintage Pendleton ladies shawl. This one is in nice used condition with nice fleece and looks little used. This old shawl has no damage of any kind that I could see and is just a great example of a vintage Pendleton shawl .Actual shipping on these robes and shawls is $15.00 as I send them in a large flat rate priority box... Another Vintage Pendleton ladies shawl.. This one is nice condition and as far as I could tell has a couple of teeny moth nips on one side.As the navajos had very few options for storage it is not unusual to have a bit of moth damage and this one as has only the small nips shown in the photos. I have personally seen a fellow who was a total novice sew these moth nips up and you had to look extremely closely to see where they had been and would not have been seen at all if you were not really looking for them. Actual shipping on these robes and shawls is $15.00 as I send them in a large flat rate priority box.(SH-4)
A couple of beautiful coral cabs for your consideration. These both weigh in at about 4 carats plus each. These are some I bought in the 1980s from Gallup, NM to use in navajo jewelry. Both of these stones are deeper in color than the photos show. The top one is a bit deeper red that the bottom one but both are beautiful italian coral cabs. This type of coral is becoming increasingly scarce and collectable.
Item #140
Priced from top to bottom with each stone being shown twice for perspective..
(1) SIZE 15.5mm X 9.5mm X 3.8mm...$60.00
(2) SIZE 17mm X 9mm X 3.6mm... $50.00
HATCH TRADERS
was in business for over 35 years in northern Arizona, bordering the Navajo reservation. Our business was pawning and trading with the Navajo people. We are a second generation Indian trading family and prided ourselves in dealing in the best quality at the lowest prices of anyone in the business.
Much of the jewelry offered here was acquired from Navajo customers who pawned it at my shop and then failed to redeem it, this is known as "dead pawn".
Unlike the "INDIAN JEWELRY" offered by many others, we can firmly attest to the fact that ours is authentic and was created by real Navajo artists!!
The pieces on these pages are all part of my personal collection which I took out of my business over the years.
